When Calema lit up Lisbon’s biggest stage, DiGiCo consoles and Auditiv Audiovisuals kept the sound seamless

This summer, as the finale to their 15 Years tour, Calema prepared for one of their most iconic shows. Engineers knew that only DiGiCo could deliver audio needed to ensure the show went off without a hitch. With two DiGiCo Quantum 338s (the same technology used at Fairy-Tale Theatre in China) at the front of house position and two DiGiCo SD5s at monitors, supplied by Auditiv Audiovisuals, the team benefitted from a fully redundant system and total peace of mind.

Calema is made up of brothers António and Fradique Mendes Ferreira. With musical careers based in Portugal, their recent show at Lisbon’s Estádio da Luz was their biggest stadium show yet.

Joao Escada, co-owner with Daniel Bekerman of Auditiv Audiovisuals strove to make the show a spectacle. “We wanted to provide the most robust system we could, so mirroring the consoles was a key feature of the system design and worked flawlessly from the very start.”

Auditiv Audiovisuals supplied equipment, crew and support for the show. “We made two identical Optocore loops at the front of house position, with two DiGiCo Quantum 338s fed by two passive splitters with 56 channels each,” explained Escada. “We used two 32-bit SD-Racks in each loop and the 56 stage outputs were switched by Radial units.”

The biggest challenge of the project was ensuring the band could hear everything they needed to, even in a huge stadium setting. The DiGiCo SD5 mitigated this concern.

“Making a show of this size and importance happen could only be done with the power of DiGiCo behind us. It was a great experience, and we look forward to many more like it in the future,” concluded Escada.

The band embarks on their Voyage Tour this Autumn, with dates across the world starting with London’s The O2.
