Singapore Repertory Theatre has raised the curtain on a new era of backstage coordination with the installation of Clear-Com’s Arcadia Central Station
Persistent communication issues and the need for smoother coordination prompted the Singapore Repertory Theatre (SRT) to deploy Clear-Com’s Arcadia Central Station. As one of Asia’s leading professional theatre companies, SRT decided to carry out the upgrade with Clear-Com’s regional partner, Electronics & Engineering Pte Ltd (E&E).
Before the upgrade, SRT experienced reliability issues with its ageing intercom system. Problems included occasional interference and wear that hindered clear communication among the production team.
After evaluating several vendors, the team selected Clear-Com’s Arcadia Central Station. The new setup integrates wireless FreeSpeak II digital beltpacks and strategically placed transceivers. Operating in the 1.9 GHz band, the system ensures interference-free performance and minimises conflict with wireless microphones and Wi-Fi signals.
Arcadia can also bridge the gap between existing analogue infrastructure and newer digital capabilities. “Our communication capabilities improved dramatically,” said Lee Kong Shen, technical manager at SRT. “The Clear-Com system offered crisp, uninterrupted interaction between departments, enabling us to respond to on-the-fly issues quickly and efficiently. Plus, its scalability meant we could expand or adapt the system based on the complexity of each production.”
Critically, the installation was carried out without disruption to the theatre’s busy performance schedule. SRT’s technical crew quickly adapted to the system with training and support by Clear-Com and E&E. “The user-friendly interface meant our crew could quickly get up to speed,” Lee added.
With the successful deployment of Clear-Com’s Arcadia Central Station, Singapore Repertory Theatre is now equipped with a future-ready intercom solution.
Theatres are not the only places benefitting from Clear-Com technology. The Basilica of Our Lady of Aparecida in Brazil has also updated its communications with the company’s help.
