Clear-Com’s EQUIP system is improving team communication to enhance safety and operations at Merlin Theme Parks

Keeping the fun on track at Merlin Theme Parks takes more than just great rides – it needs strong teamwork. Thanks to technology partner Tyrell, Merlin has now adopted Clear-Com’s EQUIP system, enabling staff to improve ride operations, safety and guest satisfaction.

Critically, Merlin Theme Parks often faced communication challenges, which caused bottlenecks throughout attractions. Therefore, the team needed a system to combat this issue. Kiran O’Connor, continuous improvement lead at Merlin Theme Parks, explained, “We needed a hands-free, full-duplex communication system without the need to press a button or pick up a phone. After evaluating several suppliers, Clear-Com’s EQUIP system hit everything we were looking for.”

From the outset, Tyrell has worked closely with both Merlin and Clear-Com to understand the each project’s technical requirements. Every installation is then tailored to the unique demands of individual attractions. “At each new attraction, Clear-Com visits our site, understands our operation, and makes bespoke recommendations on transceiver placement and cabling routes to optimise performance,” explained O’Connor.

A standout feature of the system is its battery life. EQUIP’s integrated power lasts a full operating day without the need for trailing battery packs, ensuring reliable and continuous communication. The introduction of the system has also led to measurable improvements. Ride throughput increased by up to 18% through reduced delays and more efficient seat filling. The system has also supported safety measures by enabling hands-free communication for staff working at height or in complex environments.
