Lighting has taken centre stage during Kane Brown’s latest tour, with Follow-Me’s 3D tracking system playing a vital role
Kane Brown’s High Road Tour is helping to revolutionise country music production by incorporating an all-moving lighting rig. Follow-Me’s 3D system has played a key role in creating the fully automated lighting ecosystem for each show. Meanwhile, Christie Lites has provided vendor support, while programmer Evan Rodecap and production and lighting designer Chase Hall have led technical delivery.
The tour aims to make country shows more progressive. This goal led to typical country tropes, such as wood textures and cars on stage, being abandoned in favour of an automated light system.
Nonetheless, the tour has offered unique technical challenges. “The key lights are mounted on four fixed trusses, so these are the only elements that are not exposed to automation,” explained Rodecap, showing the level of integration used in the show. Meanwhile, Kane Brown's energetic performance style has added another layer of complexity. To keep up with this movement, the system has to accommodate significant elevation changes.
To meet these requirements, the system is designed to handle multiple fixtures tethered for long-throw colour output, precise tracking backlighting and automated intensity adjustments for broadcast cameras.
Hall praised the system’s workflow advantages, while Rodecap highlighted its timesaving, single-console control via grandMA3. Overall, Follow-Me 3D exceeded expectations. "The product is very easy to deploy, and a lot of production managers are realising it's much faster than other solutions on the market,” reported Rodecap.
Building on its success in other major productions such as Mamma Mia! The Party and Clouseau’s live shows, Follow-Me’s technology continues to advance live lighting automation.
