Immersive storytelling and broadcast reach a new level as Channel 9 Sydney’s Studio A debuts with ROE Visual’s Meru, powered by Creative Technology Australia
Channel 9 Sydney Headquarters has unveiled its newly upgraded Studio A, an xR environment for sports programming and special broadcasts. Delivered by Creative Technology Australia, the installation is powered by ROE Visual’s Meru and features a large video wall for immersive visuals and dynamic storytelling.
Creative Technology and ROE Visual have collaborated on numerous projects since 2014, and the Channel 9 upgrade represents another milestone in their ongoing partnership. For this installation, Creative Technology selected Meru for its visual performance, reliability and ease of installation, allowing it to integrate seamlessly into a permanent broadcast studio.
For Alex Rolls, head of creative and innovation at Channel 9, the studio is more than just a set. “The studio features one large hero screen and a world of possibilities around it. Each show can have its own unique studio environment, with storytelling enhanced by graphics for promotional material, player data and sports highlights in a fully immersive experience for viewers."
Designed for fixed applications where both visual quality and operational efficiency are critical, Meru is an energy-efficient LED solution that offers easy integration without the need for rental cabinets. Available in multiple pixel pitches and form factors, it combines flexibility with precision engineering, making it ideal for environments such as broadcast studios.
The long-standing collaboration between Creative Technology Australia and ROE Visual continues to pay off. “ROE Visual consistently delivers high-quality products and takes a genuinely collaborative approach to development,” says Jeremy Moore, creative technology project and account manager at Creative Technology Australia. “They listen to real-world feedback and use it to refine and improve their technology, which makes a real difference for teams like ours.”
The upgraded Studio A made its on-air debut during coverage of the 2026 Winter Olympics, showcasing the studio’s enhanced capabilities and marking a new chapter for immersive broadcast production at Channel 9.
