Students Abigail Skelton and Ant Ioannou have seized the opportunity by helping to bring Production Futures’ brand activation to life at Bludfest
The second edition of Yungblud’s Bludfest took place this year at Milton Keynes Bowl. Production Futures used the event to engage with young people interested in the production industries. True to the organisation’s ethos, the Production Futures’ brand activation area was designed, constructed and run by two students from the Confetti Institute of Creative Technologies, part of Nottingham Trent University.
Second-year Confetti Institute students Abigail Skelton and Ant Ioannou first connected with Production Futures at an ON TOUR event. Later, they were able to link up with Siyan, the company providing lighting and video for Bludfest. From here, they were given the opportunity to run Production Futures’ brand activation area and access to Siyan’s equipment.
The students were part of the project from start to finish. Skelton said, “We were involved in every step, from designing the space and prepping equipment, to setting up, programming, running the stage and loading out. The experience of working with such incredibly welcoming people grew our confidence, knowledge and network.”
Ioannou agreed, saying, “From sketching out ideas at home and then presenting them to technical directors, to pulling equipment from Siyan’s warehouse and building the stage onsite at the festival, we gained great insight into the full production process. It was an amazing opportunity, not only to learn, but also to share the journey with everyone who visited.”
Their hands-on work at Bludfest not only gave Skelton and Ioannou invaluable real-world experience but also showcased the next generation of talent in live event production.
