A bold visual reimagining of a cult classic, Muriel’s Wedding the Musical at Leicester’s Curve Theatre dazzled audiences with Infiled technology
The UK premiere of Muriel’s Wedding the Musical featured a striking video-led design powered by over 400 LED panels from Infiled’s DBmk2 Series. Based on PJ Hogan’s 1994 film, the show opened on 10 April and ran until 10 May 2025.
Designed by Andrzej Goulding, the production blended theatrical storytelling with a modern aesthetic. This playful design required an LED solution capable of faithful colour reproduction at low brightness and seamless integration with the physical set.
Infiled’s DBmk2 Series, with its 10,000:1 contrast ratio and matte black surface, ensured this design was realised. “The blacks were deep, the whites were clean and it just looked great on stage,” confirmed Dan Trenchard, video engineer for the show.
“The challenge is that the darker you make the wall, the worse the colour reproduction can become,” continued Trenchard. “For this show, we’re running most of the product at about 500 nits. At this lower brightness, we still need the colour reproduction to be just as accurate as when the screen is at full brightness.” Infiled’s Colour & Brightness Shift Free (CBSF) technology helped the DBmk2 Series deliver uniform brightness and colour reproduction.
The dynamism of Infiled’s technology also helped to create the musical’s set. Modular Infiled panels were used to create the irregular wall shapes for LED sliders, which represented smartphone screens.
In total, 412 DBmk2 panels were deployed across the production. All screens were powered by a Disguise EX3+ media server and driven by Brompton SX40 processors with XD distribution.
In addition to the quality of Infiled’s LED panels, the team at Muriel’s Wedding the Musical enjoyed the company’s responsive support.
“LED technology can feel a bit mysterious at first, especially when you’re working with new products,” Trenchard continued. “But with Infiled and Brompton, things are becoming much more user-friendly.”
Muriel’s Wedding the Musical is not the only show turning to Infiled technology to light up the stage. MJ The Musical in Hamburg has also used Infiled panels to animate the show.
